BALANGA CITY, Philippines—Police on Sunday arrested a couple in this Bataan city after a raid in their house yielded materials for explosives believed supplied to local fishermen engaged in dynamite fishing.
Reports said at least 100 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, a chemical used in the production of explosives, and 4,140 blasting caps were recovered in the house of Nilda Francisco, 52, and Angelito Alcantara, 49, in the village of Ibayo here.
Superintendent Benjamin Silo Jr., city police chief, said the arrest came after months of police surveillance of the couple's activities.
Judge Manuel Tan of the Bataan regional trial court issued the arrest warrant for Francisco and Alcantara.
