MANILA, Philippines—A sister of a communist leader was shot dead by still unidentified men inside her home in Davao del Norte province last Saturday, a human rights group said.
Evelyn Pitao, sister of New People’s Army Commander Leoncio Pitao alias Commander Parago, and her still unidentified common-law husband were inside their residence in Kapalong town when unidentified men barged in s in and shot them dead at about 12 p.m., said Kelly Delgado of Karapatan-Southern Mindanao Secretary General.
Other circumstances surrounding Pitao’s death remained unknown as of this posting, Delgado said.
Commander Parago’s 20-year old daughter, Rebelyn, was abducted last March 4 while on her way home in the village of Bago Galleria, Talomo District, Davao City.
Her body was found the next day in Carmen town, Davao del Norte. Her family had said she bore signs of torture and rape.
Although Delgado said they could not yet identify the suspects behind Pitao’s death, he said, “We hope no more Pitao family will be executed.”
