MANILA, Philippines--The World Bank's Knowledge for Development Center (KDC) at the Central Philippine University in Iloilo recently installed adaptive equipment to accommodate persons with disabilities (PWDs).
It will also start offering training on the use of assistive devices and training for PWD educators.
The KDC at the Central Philippine University is one of the 11 such facilities activated by the World Bank in cooperation with learning institutions in the Philippines.
It is primarily for information sharing on societal development aspects among the different learning institutions.
Some of the equipment installed in the KDC include screen magnification for people with low vision and screen readers for the totally blind; and trackball mouse for people with cerebral palsy and psychomotor disabilities.
The facility also widened some of its pathways to accommodate people on wheelchairs.
WB Countery Director Bert Hofman said the installation of adaptive equipment in their KDCs is part of their mandate to promote growth among people in the society by providing them with access to information and education.
An upcoming project of the WB related to persons with disabilities is a roundtable discussion on inclusive education for PWDs that will happen on May 11.
