100 houses razed in Cebu fire

CEBU CITY, Philippines—A fire razed about 100 houses in the heavily populated village of Basak-San Nicolas, Cebu City Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
The fire broke out at around 2:28 p.m., affecting an interior portion of the village.
The Bureau of Fire Protection declared a general alarm at 2:40 p.m. and Cebu City firemen, with the help of fire fighters from the neighboring areas of Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu and Talisay cities, put the fire under control after an hour.
SFO2 Alih Kassem Espinola of the Cebu City Fire Department said they have yet to determine the cause and origin of the hour-long fire.
City officials said the villagers evacuated to the village sports complex.
