BATANGAS CITY--A crane truck traveling along Pinamucan Proper here went out of control, ran over and killed a woman waiting for a jeepney ride and injured three crewmen early Sunday morning, a police official said.
Supt. Manuel Abu, Batangas City police chief, said Delia Ebreo, 42, died on the spot while three crane helpers--Edgardo Banda, Lito Macan and Elmer Areta--were brought to the Bauan General Hospital in Bauan town for medical treatment.
Abu revealed that at about 4:30 a.m, the Tadano 20-tonner rough terrain crane had a mechanical trouble while being driven by Ronnie Macatangay. It went out of control and hit Ebreo, who was waiting for a jeepney ride.
The crane also hit and wrecked a sari-sari (variety) store owned by Rocenda Cueto. The owner was unharmed while the three crane helpers were wounded.
The crane is owned by Rey Tech Construction.
Police are now searching for Macatangay who fled on foot after the accident.
