LEGAZPI CITY -- A Globe Telecom cell site was torched by at least seven suspected members of the New People's Army Wednesday night in Tabaco City, a police official said Thursday.
Superintendent Jose Lipa Capinpin, chief of the Tabaco City Police, reported that the Globe cell site in Barangay (village) Buang, was torched at 8:15 p.m.
The cell site is located 7 kilometers from the Tabaco City Police Station and the city proper.
Capinpin said the suspects used improvised explosive device which totally damaged the cell site tower, including the transmission receiving unit.
He said the caretaker, reportedly, was held at gunpoint by the suspects, who broke through the cyclone wire perimeter fence of the cell site.
Police are still conducting an investigation to track down the suspects and assess the total damage, while troopers from the Philippine Army are closely guarding the area.
