MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATE) All storm signals have been lowered as tropical depression “Quinta” continues to move away from the country, the state-run weather bureau said Friday.

But even before Quinta could leave, another shallow low pressure area or brewing storm was spotted 400 kilometers east of Mindanao as of 10 a.m., according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA)

Quinta was located 250 kilometers northwest of Coron, Palawan, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kilometers per hour, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 11 a.m. weather bulletin.

It is expected to move west-northwest at 22 kilometers per hour and is forecast to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Friday evening or Saturday morning, said weather forecaster Rene Paciente.

Paciente said the low pressure area moving towards Northern Mindanao, might intensify into a tropical depression and would be named “Rolly.”

In its 5 a.m. weather forecast Friday, PAGASA said that the southwestern section of Southern Luzon would experience rains and gusty winds while the rest of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Northern Mindanao would have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms, PAGASA said.

Thunderstorms will become widespread rains over the eastern section of Central Luzon and Bicol region and might trigger flashfloods and land slides while Metro Manila will have cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms, it said.

The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, PAGASA said.
