ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines—Authorities on Tuesday recovered bomb components inside the office of the Pambato Cargo Forwarders in the village of Tetuan here, the police said.
Senior Superintendent Lurimer Detran, city police chief, said a staffer of the forwarding company had earlier informed the police about two unclaimed boxes lying in their office since Saturday.
He said around 1 p.m., a team from the Criminal Detection and Investigation Group (CIDG) and the police’s bomb squad, ascertained that the boxes had contained bomb components by using a bomb-sniffing dog.
Detran said one of the boxes contained 10,000 pieces of blasting caps when opened while the other box contained 3,000 rolls of detonating cord.
He said the shipper was a Donhir Mansur, whose address was not indicated, and the consignee was an RK Zamboanga Enterprises.
“We are still investigating,” Detran said.
He said improvised explosive devices, which terror groups are using, are already lethal even if fitted only with one or two blasting caps.
“Picture (it) out if you use all 10,000 blasting caps,” he said.
