CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines—Six employees of the Department of Public Works and Highways were brought to the National Orthopedic Hospital after a road accident in Tablas Island, Romblon province, on Wednesday, a DPWH official said Thursday.
Engineer Rolindo Perez, district engineer of Romblon, said in a telephone interview that the DPWH vehicle carrying around 20 people crashed into a house, injuring at least six people along the Tablas circumferential road at the Salingsing intersection.
The construction workers and office employees of the DPWH were supposed to attend the feast in the town of San Agustin upon the invitation of the town mayor, Perez said.
"It was not an official trip, our employees took a half-day leave," he added.
At about 12:30 p.m., the vehicle lost its break, Perez quoted the driver as saying, but miraculously no one died.
The accident happened a few meters away from a deep ravine.
The employees sustained fractures and minor injuries, Perez said.
