Deaf-mute found dead in Quezon City alley

MANILA, Philippines—The body of a 25-year-old deaf-mute with multiple head injuries was found early Friday near his home in Quezon City.

But investigators of the Quezon City Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit are still unsure if Norman Ramirez, of Purok 4, Kaingin I, in the village of Pansol in Diliman, had been killed or had died from an accidental fall.

QCPD-CIDU reports revealed that Ramirez was discovered at around 12:14 a.m. in an alley near Purok 4 by his 18-year-old brother Patrick.

Ramirez, who was found lying on his back, had a gaping wound on the back of the head and a cut on the right eyebrow. Police investigators likewise found abrasions on his right knee indicating that Ramirez had tripped and landed on it.

Patrick told investigators that before the discovery of the body, his brother had gone off on an errand to a nearby sari-sari (variety) store.

Police Officer 2 Edwin dela Cruz of the QCPD-CIDU said that Ramirez's wounds indicate he may have been bludgeoned with a hard object or he may have tripped and simply hit his head against the object.

Dela Cruz stressed that neither of the angles have been discounted and investigation into the death is still being undertaken.
