MANILA, Philippines -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Tuesday reopened the Tigum Bridge, a major span in Western Visayas, after two months of intensive rehabilitation because of damage caused by typhoons.
Tigum Bridge, which connects Iloilo City to the province of Capiz, was reopened to traffic and can now accommodate loads of up to 10 tons, DPWH regional director Rolando Asis.
Asis said steel bailey panels were used to replace the damaged parts of the bridges.
But he said the repairs were only temporary and they would still have to put in stronger material to accommodate heavier loads.
Tigum Bridge also connects Iloilo City to the towns of Cabatuan, Maasin, Janiuay, Lambunao, and Calinog.
