DIGOS CITY, Philippines -- Unidentified motorcycle-riding men shot and killed a Vietnamese national and injured his brother early Wednesday here.

Inspector Anthony Padua, city police chief, identified the slain Vietnamese only by his first name, Nguyen, 27, and his younger brother as Trieu Lee.

Padua said the victims were on their way home aboard a passenger tricycle when the gunmen attacked them along 1st Crumb Street here past 1 a.m.

"The victims were rushed to a hospital but Nguyen, who was hit four times, died while being treated," he said.

The victims were among the so-called boat people who fled their temporary shelter in Palawan a few years back.

They sell dry goods here and in other parts of Southern Mindanao for a living.
