MANILA, Philippines--A 4.5-magnitude earthquake shook several portions of Luzon Sunday night, the Philippine Institute for Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
There were no immediate reports of damages or casualties.
The "preliminary location" of the tremor, which occurred 8:01 pm, was placed at 103 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora said Phivolcs chief Renato Solidum when reached by phone Sunday night.
The earthquake, which was tectonic in origin, was felt at Intensity 4 in the Aurora capital, Gabaldon in Nueva Ecija, Plaridel in Bulacan, and Manila; at Intensity 3 in Quezon City, Makati, Taguig, Pasig and Infanta in Quezon; and at Intensity 2 in Guinyangan in Clark and Baguio.
Arvin Carandang of the San Pablo Philippine National Red Cross Office, quoting a report from the Disaster Management Service Operations Center of the PNRC head office, and residents interviewed by the Inquirer said that the earthquake, which struck at 8:01 p.m. Sunday, was felt in the towns of San Pedro, Paete and Pangil in Laguna.
A 4.5-magnitude earthquake is considered light. Under Intensity 3 to 4 quake, only some people would feel the shaking and any damage to property would be minor.
