Twister disrupts power in Pangasinan towns

DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines -- A tornado hit a village in Lingayen Wednesday afternoon, toppling at least four electricity posts that cut off power supply to a number of towns in western and central Pangasinan, including Dagupan, officials said.

Several houses were damaged but no one was hurt, police said.

Melanie Anicoche, corporate communications officer of the National Transmission Corp., said the tornado hit the posts on the dike in the village of Quibaol in Lingayen and cut off power supply to the Dagupan Electric Corp. (Decorp) and Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative (Cenpelco).

Decorp supplies electricity to Dagupan City, Calasiao, San Jacinto, Manaoag towns and parts of San Fabian and San Carlos City.

Cenpelco supplies several towns in western and central Pangasinan.

Anicoche said repair crews were in the area to restore the fallen posts.

The province is still recovering from the onslaught of tropical storm “Cosme” (international codename: Halong) and Decorp and Cenpelco had just restored power to most of the typhoon-hit towns.
