DAVAO CITY, Philippines -- Two soldiers were wounded during a clash with New People's Army rebels in Cateel, Davao Oriental Friday evening.
Colonel Alan Luga, commander of the 1001st Infantry Brigade, said Army troopers were patrolling a remote village when they chanced upon the rebels.
Luga said the military believed that the communist guerillas also suffered injuries because of traces of blood along their escape route.
Luga reported also that another band of NPA rebels stormed a Globe Telecom facility in Montevista, Compostela Valley on Friday and seized the guard's service firearm.
He said the rebels tried but failed to burn down the facility.
