DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines--A light aircraft on Sunday was damaged when it bounced after touchdown and landed on a grassy area beside the runway of the airport in Lingayen, Pangasinan, a radio report said.
No one, however, was reported hurt in the incident. Freddie Fajardo, Aksyon Radyo Pangasinan reporter, who witnessed the incident, said the aircraft, a single engine Cessna plane, touched down at about 10:20 a.m. but it bounced and nose-dived into a grassy patch near the runway.
The plane's passenger and its pilot were taken to a local hospital, but reports said they were not hurt.
An Air Transportation Office employee, who asked not to be identified for lack of authority to issue an official statement, told the Philippine Daily Inquirer (parent company of INQUIRER.net) that the accident was caused by a "bump" or a rapidly rising current of air that gave the airplane an upward thrust.
Students of aeronautical schools based in Pampanga have been using the Lingayen airport as a training ground.
