CAMP GEN. ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan -- Two men suspected of involvement in the May 4 murder of former Calumpit mayor Ramon Pagdanganan were killed in an alleged shootout with policemen in Bocaue town on Wednesday night.

Senior Superintendent Allen Bantolo, Bulacan police director, said the suspects -- Jerry Velasco and another identified only as Jocel -- engaged policemen in a gunfight at their safe house in Northville 5, Barangay (village) Batia, at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Chief Inspector Rizalino Andaya, Bocaue police chief, said the suspects were wanted for a separate robbery case that victimized an Indian in Bocaue.

However, witnesses to Pagdanganan's murder who were taken by policemen to Bocaue on Wednesday night to inspect the suspects’ bodies told policemen the slain men's features were similar to those of the former mayor's killers.

The former mayor was on his way home in his car when he was ambushed in Barangay Calizon, Calumpit, around 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Chief Superintendent Nicanor Bartolome, Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesman also said the slain suspects also matched the artist's sketch of the gunmen who killed Pagdanganan, a brother of former governor Roberto Pagdanganan.

Recovered from the suspects were a .357 caliber, .45 caliber, and .22 caliber pistol. A third suspect escaped during the shootout.

Bartolome said the guns would be subjected to ballistic testing to see if these were the same weapons used against Pagdanganan.
