CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines -- An unidentified gunman shot dead a village head in San Pablo City, Laguna on Saturday morning, police said.
Senior Superintendent Felipe Rojas, Laguna police director, identified the victim as Marco Provenciano, 53, chairman of the village of Atisan, San Pablo City.
The victim was in the old cemetery of the city at about 10:15 a.m. when the assailant shot him in the head. Rojas said a .45-caliber shell was found at the scene.
Rojas said they were eyeing politics as the motive for the killing.
He said Provenciano was a first-time village chief in San Pablo City.
