MANILA, Philippines – The Armed Forces of the Philippines will be on alert amid rumors of terrorist attacks during the Holy Week, a spokesman from the Defense department said Wednesday.

In a Radyo Inquirer interview, defense spokesman and undersecretary Eduardo Batac said the military has undertaken steps to ensure the safety of the public as terror groups like the Abu Sayyaf group may take advantage of the Lenten break.

But Batac said the public has nothing to worry about, adding that these security measures were “normal” procedure.

“These are normal measures that are undertaken just to make sure that no untoward incident happens during the holidays,” Batac said.
