MANILA, Philippines? The national police leadership appealed to the public Wednesday to stop spreading hoax text messages regarding radiation exposure from Japan.

Philippine National Police spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. said that forwarding the hoax messages only "sows panic among the people."

Cruz reiterated the Department of Science and Technology's (DoST) announcement that the nuclear crisis in Japan posed no danger to the country.

The spokesman urged the public to make sure the information they receive came from official and credible sources before believing them and passing them on to others.
