MANILA, Philippines?(UPDATE) The remains of former Armed Forces chief of staff and defense secretary Angelo Reyes were laid to rest at the Libingan ng mga Bayani at noon Sunday.

Military graveyard services were given as a military chaplain stood before the open white casket surrounded by family, friends, public officials, military personnel, and their families.

Reyes's immediate family and close friends were seen sobbing as they made their farewell to the decorated military general, who once led the government takeover of the Moro rebel camp, Camp Abubakar in Mindanao.

Military personnel saluted before the coffin as it was lowered to the ground at exactly noon, while a military helicopter made its fourth and last flower drop of rose petals.

The noontime heat was tempered by a strong breeze.

A 19-gun salute earlier boomed as a military band played after the remains of Reyes were brought out of a black funeral car at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Fort Bonifacio, at 11 a.m.

The funeral march was preceded by a shower of red and white rose petals dropped by a military helicopter.

Behind the caisson bearing the flag-draped white casket were Reyes's widow Teresita, Armed Forces Chief of Staff Gen. Ricardo David Jr., Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin, the other members of the military top brass and Reyes' family, followed by relatives, colleagues, and
friends.

The military rendered full funeral honors to Reyes who killed himself last Tuesday amid allegations of corruption raised by former military budget officer George Rabusa.

Among public personalities at the Libingan ng mga Bayani were former president and now Pampanga Rep.Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, former Armed Forces chiefs of staff Dionisio Santiago, Generoso Senga, and Hermogenes Esperon, Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, and former Navy flag officer in command Mateo Mayuga.

The Senate is expected to continue hearings on allegations of systematic pocketing and diversion of military funds.
