MANILA, Philippines ? (UPDATE 2) A former Marine officer who was freed this week visited a detained comrade, now a senator, at Camp Crame Friday.
Accompanied by his wife, Maria Flor, and some supporters, ex-Colonel Ariel Querubin arrived at the PNP Custodial Center at exactly 11:40 am. ?to talk and check on the condition? of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, a former Navy officer.
?Basta kami ang napagusapan lang namin kung paano matutulungan yung bagong administrasyon para lahat ng mga katiwalian mailabas [We simply talked about how we can help the new administration so that all the corruption would surface],? Querubin told reporters after his visit at the custodial center.
He said he also extended his gratitude to Trillanes and the Magdalo group, a band of rebel soldiers, for their support in Querubin?s senatorial bid. Querubin ran as guest candidate of the Nacionalista Party in the May 10 elections but lost.
Querubin was released from detention at Camp Aguinaldo on Wednesday after he was granted provisional freedom by Armed Forces Chief of Staff Ricardo David Jr.
Upon his release, Querubin vowed to share information before the Truth Commission about the alleged cheating committed in the last 2004 elections.
Querubin also said that he visited former AFP comptroller General Carlos Garcia, who is also detained for plunder.
He said they did not discuss the possibility of Garcia speaking before the Truth Commission, but the Marine colonel hoped that more people would surface soon to disclose anomalies committed during the Arroyo administration.
?Sa akin ito muna yung sa [?Hello Garci?] dahil dun yung kaso namin. Yun yung original sin. May iba rin siguro magsusurface pero siguro makakatulong tayo in trying to convince other people,? Querubin said.
Querubin was arrested for his role in the 20-hour Marine standoff at Fort Bonifacio in Makati City on Feb. 26, 2006 which then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo claimed was part of a plot to unseat her.
