MANILA, Philippines? The majority of Filipinos were satisfied with the conduct of the country?s first-ever automated elections, according to a recent survey by the Social Weather Stations (SWS).
About 75 percent of survey respondents indicated the results of the May 10 elections were ?satisfactory?, especially for the presidential and vice-presidential races.
Of the 1,200 sample population queried from June 25 to 28, only 8 percent said they were undecided, while 15 percent said they were dissatisfied.
?This year?s public satisfaction with the conduct of the May 2010 elections is a marked improvement compared to the previous two elections,? the SWS said.
In 2004 and 2007, only 53 percent and 51 percent, respectively, of the survey participants declared satisfaction with the polls.
The SWS also polled 480 election workers and 99 percent of them were satisfied with the conduct of the polls, compared to the 78 percent in 2007, when the country held mid-term polls.
On the performance of the Comelec, 77 percent found the Comelec results credible. This was a jump from the 65 percent satisfaction rating in 2007.
Comelec also got higher marks for its voter registration and information drive.
Comelec?s supplier, Smartmatic TIM Corp., and its citizen?s arm, Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), also enjoyed high satisfaction ratings.
In a related front, the Random Manual Audit conducted by the PPCRV on 1,145 clustered precincts showed that ?none failed the accuracy test of 99 percent.?
The RMS report said the variance or difference in the machine count and in the manual audit of the results by teacher-auditors was less than 1 percent (as required by law) in most cases.
