MANILA, Philippines?President Benigno ?Noynoy? Aquino III has vowed to go after perpetrators of extrajudicial killings in the country and ordered authorities to look into the string of killings reported under his two-week old administration.
Aquino said he has directed Police chief General Director Jesus Verzosa to conduct an investigation on this matter as he stressed the need to solve the problem with ?convictions.?
?I have been asking for an update...(I want to) see to it na merong convictions rin. Mas importate po satin yan [I want to see to it that convictions will be made. That is more important for us],? he said.
But the President said the police has indicated that many of the killings were personal.
Marami dito ay talagang personal ang away din [This is not a policy of our administration but in general, we can?t say that this is an abuse because of a state policy in the past. Many of these (killings) are really personal],? he said.
That's why our commitment, the commitment of our men in the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police is to go after those who violate the law. There should be no differentiation between law enforcers who violate the law and civilians who do the same),? Aquino added.
