MANILA, Philippines? The antigraft court Sandiganbayan is hoping to turn over to the Bureau of Treasury (BTR) next week former president Joseph Estrada?s P143-million ?Boracay Mansion? after no buyer showed up when it was auctioned more than a month ago.
But the Sandiganbayan Sheriff Division will still have to wait for the representatives of the national treasury so they could hold an ocular inspection of the property before the turnover.
The Sandiganbayan Sheriff Division had already informed the bureau of its target schedule for the turnover, which is tentatively set for March 16.
The Sandiganbayan ordered the forfeiture of the property, said to be part of Estrada?s ill-gotten wealth, right after it convicted the former president for plunder in September 2007.
Since the conviction, the Sheriff Division has collected and turned over to the national treasury about P316 million out of the more than P734 million worth of ill-gotten wealth the court had ordered to be forfeited from Estrada?s bank accounts.
The Sheriff Division also tried to auction off last year some P88 million worth of Waterfront Phil. shares of stocks seized from Estrada?s "Jose Velarde" account, but businessman William Gatchalian?s Wellex Group managed to halt it by filing a complaint with the Makati City Regional Trial Court which is pending.
Waterfront Phil. is a company under the Wellex Group.
