MANILA, Philippines? The relatives of the slain journalists in Maguindanao on Wednesday filed administrative charges before the National Police Commission against 62 policemen for their alleged involvement in the massacre of 57 people last November.

Harry Roque, the counsel for the relatives, said they also asked the Napolcom to impose a 90-day preventive suspension against the policemen, including ranking officers in the Maguindanao provincial police office.

Among those charged were Senior Superintendent Abusama Maguid, the former provincial police chief, Superintendent Bahnarin Kamaong, Superintendent Abdulwahid Pedtucasan, Chief Inspector Sukarno Dicay, Inspectors Rex Diongon and Saudi Mokamad.

?We pray that the respondents be placed on preventive suspension for a period not exceeding ninety days under Rule 16 of the Uniform Rules, on the following grounds: first, the charge against respondents is serious and grave, and the evidence of guilt against them is strong; second, the respondents are in the position to harass, intimidate, coerce and unduly influence the complainants and their witnesses into withdrawing their complaint or retracting their sworn statement or that of their witnesses against the respondents,? the complainants said in their 18-page complaint.

Under Napolcom rules, grave misconduct has the penalty of dismissal from police service.
