MANILA, Philippines?Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI) chair Marixi Prieto was among nine women honored Monday for inspiring achievements in their respective fields.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo led in handing out the Go Negosyo-Philippine Commission on Women ?Inspiring Women of the Year? awards at the 2nd Go Negosyo Women Entrepreneurship Summit held at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.
Prieto was recognized for her print media advocacy and leadership as chair of the Inquirer.
Also cited were Leonardo Camacho, head of Metro Manila Linis Ganda, for being a staunch environmentalist; singer and entrepreneur Pilita Corales, for her musical artistry; Regina Paz Lopez, managing director of ABS-CBN Foundation, for successfully implementing initiatives that aim to improve the welfare of children;
Ma. Cristina Medina, an English teacher at the Laguna Resettlement Community School, for embodying determination and passion for teaching excellence; University of the Philippines economics professor Solita Monsod, for her relentless pursuit of sound socioeconomic policies; Esther Vibal, president of Vibal Publishing House Inc., for laying the foundation of Vibal?s textbook publishing division;
Rosalinda Wee, president of the Philippine Federation of Local Councils of Women, for demonstrating entrepreneurial prowess in the seaweed/food ingredient and real estate businesses; and Linda Legaspi, chief executive officer of Marylindbert International, for making quality education accessible to the youth.
