MANILA, Philippines?Datu Unsay Mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr. stayed inside his cell for the preliminary investigation into the rebellion charge against his family.

Ric Diaz, of the National Bureau of Investigation counterterrorism unit and spokesman for the Ampatuan case, told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that since Ampatuan's lawyers have waived the right to submit a counter affidavit, it was no longer necessary to bring Andal Jr. there.
