WBO bantam champ Fernando Montiel of Mexico has chosen Filipino Ciso Morales to be his next opponent on February 13 in the co-feature of the "Latin Fury 13/Pinoy Power 3" card at the Las Vegas Hilton in Las Vegas, Nevada.
This after Montiel refused to fight ALA fighter Michael Domingo, who was earlier tapped to face the Mexican champion.
"I will be in the corner of Ciso Morales come fight night. This will be a very exciting fight, as my boy will definitely be ready to take on Montiel on Feb. 13," said renowned trainer Nonito Donaire Sr in a message from Nicaragua moments after his other protege, Jhonreil Casimero, won the interim WBO light flyweight world crown.
This writer had already been informed of the brewing Montiel-Morales match up three days ago, but opted allow for the negotiations to take place before making an announcement.
Co-headlining the Feb. 13 event is Nonito Donaire Jr who will defend his interim WBA superfly title against Mexican Gerson Guerrero.
Also set to see action is ex-world champ Gerry Penalosa who will take on Puerto Rican Eric Morel, while another Pinoy fighter Bernabe Concepcion takes on Mario Santiago. /correspondent Salven Lagumbay
