MANILA, Philippines—(UPDATE) Joint police and military forces on Monday seized guns and paraphernalia at the home of a lieutenant believed to have been used as storage area of firearms used in the massacre of at least 64 people in Maguindanao last week.

The raid was conducted at the home of Chief Inspector Saudi Mokamad in Cotabato City, said Chief Superintendent Josefino Cataluna, Central Mindanao police director.

In a report by Supt. Willie Dangane, city police chief and deputy head of Task Force Alpha, Cataluna said the raiding team confiscated an M-16 Armalite rifle, several magazines and police and fatigue uniforms were recovered from the house of Chief Insp. Saudi Mokamad.

Mokamad, chief of 1507th police provincial mobile group in Maguindanao, was not in his home during the dawn raid.

He has gone on leave without official permission, police sources said.

Police teams are gearing for more raids to gather additional evidences to implicate those behind the killings.

Dangane told reporters that intelligence information gathered showed that some of the guns used in the Maguindanao massacre were hidden in Mokamad’s home.

The police official’s mother denied there were guns hidden in her son’s home.

The seized firearm would undergo ballistic examination, Dangane said.

In a separate phone interview, Senior Superintendent Bienvenido Latag, officer in charge of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao police, said over 500 members of the paramilitary force in Maguindanao are being made available for interrogation and accounting.

He also said that the regional police are verifying all information received to determine if they can be used to strengthen the case against the perpetrators of the crime.
