MANILA--A strong 6.0-magnitude quake hit south of the southern Philippine island of Mindanao early Sunday, the US Geological Survey said, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
The quake struck at 2:10 am (1810 GMT) and was centered 161 kilometers (100 miles) east-southeast of the Mindanao city of General Santos at a depth of 74 kilometers, the USGS said.
The Hong Kong Observatory estimated the earthquake at 6.0 on the Richter scale.
The Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre did not issue any tsunami warning.
The archipelago nation sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire where continental plates meet, causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
