MANILA, Philippines – President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will reveal on Friday her political plans for the May 2010 election, her lawyer Romy Macalintal said.

Macalintal said that Arroyo would decide if she would retire from politics or if she would run next year.

Minutes after Macalintal’s statement, a group of farmers from the first and second districts of Arroyo’s home province in Pampanga was allowed entry in the Kalayaan grounds inside Malacañang.

The farmers, chanting, “GMA, GMA [Arroyo’s initials],” urged Arroyo to heed their demand for her to run in the province, not just in the second district,

“Nagkaisa kami para himukin siya na tumakbo . . . sa lalawigan ng Pampanga [We are united in urging her to run . . . in the province of Pampanga],” one of the farmers said.

Arroyo, who was in the building to confer the Order of Lakandula to Efren Penaflorida, who was recognized as the Hero of the Year by CNN, went out, smiled and shook hands with her provincemates.

Talks have been circulating that she intends to seek a congressional seat in the second district of her home province in Pampanga, a post currently occupied by her eldest son, Pampanga Representative Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo.

Arroyo has been to her home province to launch various projects for more than 30 times this year.

Quoted on radio, Macalintal said he was asked by the President to come to Malacañang for a meeting Friday noon to discuss about her political plans.

If Arroyo decides to run, Macalintal said she could seek a post as senator, congresswoman, vice president or governor. He added that Arroyo was not required by law to resign from her post even after she has filed her certificate of candidacy.
