A group of Mangyan on a hunger strike greeted Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao when he arrived at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) office in Quezon City on Friday.

?Manny, help us fight for our land,? the protesters shouted as the convoy of Pacquiao arrived at around 9:30 a.m.

?Go Manny. Fight, fight for the environment,? read one of the group?s placards.

Members of the Alyansa Laban sa Mina-Mindoro have been on hunger strike since Tuesday after Environment Secretary Lito Atienza refused to revoke the permit given to Intex Resources Philippines Inc. to conduct mining activities in Mindoro province.

Fr. Edu Gariguez, the group?s spokesman, urged Pacquiao to help them convince Atienza to cancel the mining firm?s permit.

?Manny Pacquiao fought for the country. We ask him to help us fight for our lives,? said William Vargas, one of the protesters.
