MANILA, Philippines ? Former Ilocos Sur governor Luis ?Chavit? Singson is still convincing boxing champion Manny Pacquiao to run for a partylist seat in Congress saying that, as in boxing, he will surely win.
?Walang talo ?dun. Sa partylist, makakakuha siya ng milyon-milyon. Sa Saranggani, isa lang na posisyon at masyadong confrontational [There?s no defeat. When he runs for a partylist he could get millions of votes ... unlike in Saranggani where the fight for only one seat is very confrontational],? Singson told reporters at the New World Hotel (formerly Renaissance Hotel) in Makati City.
He added that politicians at the Team Pacquiao have also been prodding Pacquiao to change his political plans.
Pacquiao?s heart is really into helping Saranggani province ?so it was quite hard, but he was thinking about it,? Singson said.
The pound-for-pound king lost in his attempt to enter politics in the 2007 elections when he ran for a congressional seat in the second district of General Santos against Darlene Antonino Custodio.
Pacquiao is now considering running in Saranggani, the province of his wife Jinky.
Singson said that if Pacquiao would join a partylist, it must be an athletes? group. Asked if he has a partylist's name in mind, he said "Wala pa, pag-uusapan pa namin [Not yet, we will still talk about it]."
He added that Pacquiao has started preparing for his political career with the deadline of the filing of candidacies at the Commission on Elections approaching. "Of course, he's ready. He is keeping in touch with his leaders and supporters."
