MANILA, Philippines?Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez on Wednesday expressed gladness over the dismissal of an impeachment complaint against her as she called on ?everybody to move on without this petty political obstacle.?

?We are glad that this impeachment thing is over,? said Gutierrez. ?We thank the members of the House of Representatives who saw through the complaint and supported the Ombudsman by junking it overwhelmingly.?

The House of Representatives in a plenary vote Tuesday night overwhelmingly threw out the complaint filed by civil society groups, which accused Gutierrez of ?culpable violation of the Constitution? for allegedly not acting on high-profile corruption scandals.

?The House decision gave now a chance for everybody to move on without this petty political obstacle without wasting our time,? Gutierrez, through Assistant Ombudsman Jose De Jesus said.

The impeachment complaint was filed last March by groups led by former Senate president Jovito Salonga and former Cabinet officials.

They alleged that Gutierrez failed to prosecute those involved in the P1.3-billion Mega-Pacific election-computerization scam, the $2-million extortion case against former justice secretary Hernando Perez, the P728-million fertilizer-fund scam, the P6.9-million ?euro generals? case, the multibillion-peso World Bank road-project collusion scheme, and the arbitrary dismissal and suspension orders against local officials.
