MANILA, Philippines ? ?Political prostitution? was how Senator Ma. Ana Consuelo ?Jamby? Madrigal described on Tuesday a resolution by fellow senators seeking the dismissal of the ethics case against colleague Manny Villar.
It was Madrigal, who filed the case against Villar, whom she accused of using his position to benefit from the C-5 road extension project in Parañaque.
?I congratulate Mr. Villar for his fantastic lobbying in turning someone like Senator [Loren] Legarda, who was rabidly against him into his girl Friday. As they say, Manny talks and money talk louder,? she said in a statement.
?I will not subscribe to political prostitution when the country?s interest is at stake. Public service is not a numbers game,? she said, adding that her fight against corruption was ?non-negotiable.?
Legarda was among the 12 senators who signed the resolution, expressing the sense of the Senate to dismiss the complaint and clear Villar of alleged acts of disorderly behavior.
Legarda did not only support the Senate investigation into the controversy but she was also among those who voted for the ouster of then Senate president Villar.
Madrigal insisted that her case against Villar was based on principles.
