MANILA, Philippines? The Commission on Elections (Comelec) urged voters who did not finish their registration last Saturday to arrive early this Tuesday.
Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said voters who were able to start processing their registration on Saturday midnight?by undergoing voter verification stage and getting application forms?will be accommodated this Tuesday.
Those who were in the registration line after Saturday midnight will also be allowed to finish their application, said Jimenez.
However, ?walk-in applicants,? who have not started processing their registration and whose names were not listed with Comelec registration offices on Saturday, will not be allowed to register, said Jimenez.
?Due to blackouts caused by typhoon Santi and the surge of applicants on October 31, the Comelec deemed it necessary to accommodate our last-minute voters by continuing our nationwide registration on Tuesday,? Jimenez said.
?We would like to clarify though that this is not an extension because we will only process unfinished applications from Saturday, not new ones from walk-in applicants,? said Jimenez.
?If a person comes up and says they were unable to file their application on Saturday due to floods, we cannot accommodate them since it would be unfair for those who braved the rains last Saturday. The have over 10 months to register not only last Saturday, they should be vigilant to do their part,? added Jimenez.
The spokesman hinted the registration may extend to Wednesday if unfinished voter applications will not be processed this Tuesday.
To speed-up the overall registration process, Jimenez reminded voters to bring their identification requirements and stamped application forms because election officers will not issue new forms, except for those who were only able to enlist their names.
