MANILA, Philippines? The Manila International Airport Authority on Monday assured the public that ?usual and standard? implementation of thermal scanning and footbaths is still being observed at all Ninoy Aquino International Airport terminals amid the declaration an Influenza A (H1N1) national emergency in the United States.

The MIAA-Medical Division, headed by Dr. Augusto Rillo, and in cooperation with the Department of Health?s Bureau of Human Quarantine, are still manning round-the-clock the Thermal Scanner stations at the Arrival areas, MIAA general manager Alfonso Cusi said in a statement issued 5:30 p.m.

?Thermal scanning and footbath measures are still being observed at NAIA, in fact, ever since the outbreak of SARS and avian. As the main entry point of our country, we remain vigilant and strict in implementing pre-cautionary measures, as this would help in preventing the entry of any dreaded diseases that might be transported by our balikbayans (expatriates) and foreign visitors,? Cusi said.

?Anyone may be susceptible and be infected and be a potential carrier, that is why we must exert extra conscious effort in safeguarding the health of all. If worse comes to worst, our medical team is always on-standby 24/7 to respond quickly and to undertake the necessary procedures in handling such cases,? Cusi added.,

Aside from acquiring thermal scanners, the MIAA ventured partnerships with other private companies last May to further improve the sanitation and hygiene of NAIA premises.

Disinfectant cleaners, hand gels and rubbing alcohols were donated to MIAA and were distributed in all NAIA?s three terminals and other offices. Anti-bacterial hand soaps were also distributed to the passengers and airport employees. Flu vaccines were also administered to MIAA employees especially those who are in the frontline service.
