MANILA, Philippines--Senate President Juan Ponce-Enrile wants the president of the Coconut Industry Investment Fund (CIIF) Milling Group, Danilo Coronacion, to explain in detail his foreign trips to Europe.
In a letter dated June 25, Enrile also asked Coronacion to his recent travel allegedly in the company of Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) Chairman Camilo Sabio and the latter's family.
"In the same way that I have formally asked Chairman Sabio to give a detailed account of his numerous travels abroad in the past years, including the recent one to Europe, I would also like to be informed of whatever arrangements you have made pertaining to the said trip or trips that you were previously a party of," he said.
The CIIF allegedly paid for Sabio and company's recent trip.
Coronacion is chief executive officer of the CIIF Milling Group, which owns five coconut mills under PCGG sequestration.
Enrile said he would like to know the names of persons who accompanied Coronacion in each travel, including family members, if any, the persons who approved the travel, "and the after-trip or accomplishments reports you submitted after every trip."
He said that since the CIIF was organized to protect the interests of the coconut farmers, Enrile wanted to know whether the coconut industry and its stakeholders benefited from these travels.
Enrile also asked if all past presidents of CIIF traveled as often as Coronacion did
While the the Bureau of Immigration has already provided him a list of Coronacion's departure and arrival in Manila from 2006 to 2009, Enrile requested the following information from the CIIF official: Purpose of each travel, total number of days allotted for each travel, total costs incurred including airfare, accommodation, per diem and other incidentals, as well as the source of funds for each travel, "whether the expenses were charged to the CIFF or to your account."
Enrile had earlier warned Sabio that he would not hesitate to initiate a Senate investigation should the PCCG official fail to explain his numerous trips abroad since 2006.
