MANILA, Philippines -- The Nacionalista Party (NP) is preparing to field a full slate, from president to senators, in 2010, its standard bearer, Senator Manuel Villar, said on Monday.
"Maglalabas kami ng full ticket sa 2010. Ang Nacionalista Party ay naghahanda na [We will come out with a full ticket in 2010. The Nacionalista Party is making preparations]," Villar, who is NP president, said at a press conference.
"Marami nang sumasali sa atin ngayon at we are all set for a full ticket sa 2010 [Many are joining us and we are all set for a full ticket in 2010]," he said.
However, Villar would not disclose the party?s senatorial lineup, saying he would rather the candidates do so at the proper time.
?Ayaw ko munang magbanggit ng sinumang pangalan dahil, syempre, mas gusto kong sila [candidates] ang magsasabi sa tamang panahon [I don?t want to mention any names because, of course, I would rather they say so themselves at the right time],? he said.
?Nakakahiya din sa bayan na kada may problema tayo ay puro pulitika na ang pinag-usapan [It is also embarrassing that whenever we have problems, we still talk about politics],? he added.
But NP spokesman Gilbert Remulla, in a phone interview, said those being considered for the party?s senatorial ticket include himself, Senator Pia Cayetano, and Representatives Ronaldo Zamora and Teofisto Guingona III.
Remula said the NP will hold a national convention in July or August this year to choose the party?s ticket.
Villar also said despite the planned fielding of a full slate, the NP is nevertheless still considering an alliance with other parties, including the ruling Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats.
?Titingnan muna natin. Ayokong magsalita ng tapos sapagkat hindi naman natin alam kung administration party nga ang Lakas?Baka Kampi [Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino, Kampi] ang administration party [We shall see. I do not want to say anything conclusive because we do not know if Lakas is, indeed, the administration party?Kampi may be the administration party],? he said, referring to the party founded by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Lakas and Kampi are working on a possible merger in 2010.
Remulla said the NP?s senatorial ticket might also include members of the United Opposition (UNO).
?We have to make room for a possible alliance with the United Opposition,? he said.
