MANILA, Philippines -- Former president Joseph Estrada is hoping the testimony of former Speaker Jose De Venecia Jr. in President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's alleged involvement in various anomalies would start a "moral revolution."
"At last, he [De Venecia] has finally found the courage to expose the true dealings and nature of this incumbent administration. I hope this will be the beginning of the moral revolution that he has spoken about," Estrada said in a statement.
At the same time, Estrada has expressed support for Pangasinan Representative De Venecia for revealing "to the nation the truth behind the anomalies of the Arroyo administration."
De Venecia, who testified at the House of Representatives earlier in the day, admitted receiving P500,000 "bribe" money from Malacañang in 2007 to support the "sham" impeachment complaint against Arroyo who he claimed had spent millions of pesos in supposedly buying other congressmen and local officials to "purchase legal protection" at that time, among others.
Estrada said he was also urging other lawmakers to "find the strength" to reveal what they knew about the other anomalies where the government was involved.
