MANILA, Philippines -- (UPDATE) United States officials have arrested two former police officers facing murder charges for the deaths of publicist Salvador “Bubby” Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito, Justice Undsersecretary Ricardo Blancaflor said Friday.

Cesar Mancao and Glenn Dumlao are facing murder charges before the Manila regional trial court.

Dacer and Corbito were abducted on November 24, 2000 and were later found dead.

Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez said the Philippines had requested the US justice department to extradite Mancao and Dumlao.

He said Dumlao is detained in New York, Mancao in Florida. Both were arrested Thursday night, Philippine time.

However, Gonzalez said US authorities have first to determine if Mancao and Dumlao have pending arrest warrants there. If not, then they will be deported to the Philippines.

He added that the two can question their extradition before US courts.
