MANILA, Philippines ? (UPDATE) Senate Pro-Tempore Jose "Jinggoy" Estrada took to the floor on Wednesday to deny the involvement of his father in the ouster of former Senate President Manny Villar.
"In fact, Mr. President, I would not have joined the sudden removal of Senator Villar as President if it were for another senator," the young Estrada said following reports of former president Joseph Estrada?s hand in the Senate coup.
He said he did not join the ouster move against Villar when he was first approached by a colleague a few months ago.
?Just to emphasize the point, at that time that one of my esteemed colleagues suggested a change of leadership a few months ago and someone was tasked to call my father about the planned change, I did not join the said move,? he said.
The senator reiterated that he only voted for Enrile as Villar's replacement because they both belonged to the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino [PMP, Force of the Philippine Masses].
He also cited Enrile?s ?unwavering? support for the former president even during the impeachment against him.
On the revival of the Charter change initiative, the senator threatened to resign from the majority bloc if the issue would be pursued.
