MANILA, Philippines ? (UPDATE) Senator Ana Consuelo ?Jamby? Madrigal has formally asked that she be replaced as the opposition?s representative to the Senate committee on ethics so that she could file a case against Senate President Manny Villar over the road project controversy where he has been implicated.
Madrigal signified her intention to Senate Minority Floor Leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr. in a letter dated October 6.
?Considering that I will file a complaint against Senate President Manny Villar sometime this week, I am respectfully withdrawing my membership in the committee of ethics and privileges, out of delicadeza to protect the integrity of the proceedings,? Madrigal said.
Madrigal and Senator Panfilo Lacson are the only opposition representatives in the committee.
Pimentel said he would recommend Senator Loren Legarda to replace Madrigal.
Madrigal was supposed to file the case this Monday but reconsidered, saying she would like to prove that there was still "delicadeza" in the Senate.
Besides, Madrigal said, the evidence against Villar was overwhelming.
"The evidence is getting to be overwhelming. We are drowning in evidence. This is because if a person has stepped on a lot of people, then the evidence begins to present itself,? Madrigal said in Filipino.
