MANILA, Philippines -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has tapped Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (PSALM) vice president Froilan Tampinco as the new head of the National Power Corp. (Napocor), Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita has said.

Tampinco will replace outgoing Napocor president Cyril del Callar, whose resignation will take effect on September 30. Del Callar resigned due to health reasons.

Ermita said the President confirmed Tampinco's appointment to him before she left for New York on Sunday evening.
