MANILA, Philippines—The bishop in charge of the military has called on all chaplains to hold a special Mass and say prayers for the victims of Monday’s C-130 crash.
Bishop Leopoldo Tumulak, the military Ordinariate of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, said he would ask all the military and police chaplains to pray for the nine victims of the plane crash that occurred Monday night.
“After the retrieval, I will be asking all the chaplains to say Mass for them and even the imam, and the pastors, I will request them,” Tumulak said over the Catholic Church’s Radio Veritas.
Tumulak said he could not give credence to reports that the Moro Islamic Liberation Front sabotaged the plane and caused the crash, saying it was still under investigation.
The aircraft that crashed in Davao Gulf on Monday night was one of the two C-130 planes used by the military. The plane was on its way to Iloilo City when air traffic controllers lost contact with it.
The people aboard the plane were identified as Maj. Manuel Zambrano Jr., the pilot, co-pilot Capt. Adrian de Dios; crew members TSgt. Constantino Lobrigas and Staff Sergeants John Areola, Gary Diñoso, Felix Pedro Patriarca, Patricio Claur Jr., Aldrin Illustrisimo and Petronilo Fernandez.
Search and rescue teams said they found debris and body parts in the area where the plane, now hundreds of feet underwater, went down.
