MANILA, Philippines -- The special legislative executive development advisory council (LEDAC) called by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to discuss the Mindanao conflict has been cancelled, her political adviser said Wednesday.
Presidential Political Adviser Gabriel Claudio said the meeting, scheduled at 10 a.m. Friday, would not push through because members of the peace negotiating panel and Armed Forces officials would attend the oral argument at the Supreme Court on the same day.
Arroyo has called for the special expanded LEDAC meeting to review whether peace talks with the MILF should continue in the light of the secessionist group's attacks on several towns in North Cotabato and Lanao del Norte.
Invited to the meeting aside from congressional leaders and Cabinet members were local executives, sectoral representatives, members of the opposition, and prominent stakeholders in Mindanao, Claudio added.
LEDAC meetings are venues for both the executive and the legislative to discuss and prioritize a common legislative agenda for swift passage.
