MANILA, Philippines--After some private time in Cebu over the weekend, the King of Swaziland flew to Manila on Sunday, beginning his official visit to the Philippines.
King Mswati III and his 13th wife, Queen Inkhosikati LanKhambule, arrived in Manila via private jet from Cebu City at 4:45 p.m., starting two days of meetings with Philippine officials.
This is the first time a Swazi king has come to the country on a state visit.
He arrived Friday in Lapu-Lapu City and went to Bohol on a private visit before heading to Manila.
Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) chair Romulo Neri and Air Force chief Lt. Gen. Pedrito Cadungog led foyer honors for the African royals at Villamor Air Base in Pasay City.
The King will be given arrival honors in Malacañang on Monday, where he is expected to lead the signing of Swaziland's bilateral agreement with the Philippines for "economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation," according to a Palace statement.
He will be honored with a state dinner on Monday night.
The royal delegation leaves Manila Tuesday morning.
