MANILA, Philippines--The Philippine Air Force will transport a Philippine humanitarian contingent to cyclone-ravaged Myanmar (Burma) on Monday, once its junta government gives the go signal, the PAF chief said.
The C-130 cargo plane will carry a team of doctors and nurses as well as relief supplies to Yangon, Lieutenant General Pedrito Cadungog said.
"There is a schedule tomorrow [Monday], but there is a problem over clearances, because Myanmar does not want to let the humanitarian mission in yet," Cadungog told reporters on Sunday.
Cadungog said the PAF was hoping that the humanitarian team would take off from Vllamor Airbase early Monday morning, with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo set to see them off, before she presides over the turnover ceremonies for the new military chief in Camp Aguinaldo at 10 a.m.
"The President would like to send off the mission," he said.
Cyclone Nargis ravaged Myanmar last week, killing thousands of people.
