MANILA, Philippines -- Former economic planning secretary Romulo Neri cannot be arrested yet, the Supreme Court ruled in a resolution Tuesday.

The high court issued the status quo ante order after Neri filed a petition for a temporary restraining order against the arrest warrant issued against him by the Senate for his failure to attend a hearing of the inquiry into the controversial national broadband network (NBN) deal.

The Supreme Court gave the Senate 10 days to comment.

The status quo ante order means the situation before the arrest warrant was issued holds.

The court has set the oral argument on Neri’s petition March 4.
